Greetings!,
Civic engagement is at the center of all we do here at
ACDC. Whether it is teaching youth to raise their voices
through the power of radio, or bringing people together to
fight for affordable housing on Parcel 24, we are here to
empower community members to participate in civic life in
Greater Boston.
Described in this month's issues are two opportunities for
your to let your voice be heard.
- Give your input regarding commercial needs in Chinatown
to help us direct our urban planning activities.
- Participate in upcoming urban planning charrettes
(collaborative dialogs about a particular design or project)
regarding the potential economic, land use, and
trasportation impact on block of land in and adjacent to
Chinatown, to be made available for redevelopment by the
completion of the Big Dig.
We hope you'll join us in building a better Greater Boston.
Sincerely,
ACDC Board and Staff

Chinatown Gateway Charrette
Have your say about how the Big Dig Parcels in Chinatown
get redeveloped during this community planning event...
 It's
finally happening! After an almost 2-year-long
collaborative community process, the Chinatown Gateway
Coalition will unfold a community Charrette in July,
2007, of which the outcome may have great potential to
influence the biggest development project in the history
of Chinatown.
We ask for your participation as we reach the most
important milestone of the entire community planning
process . The Charrette will take place over the
course of three sessions to generate discussions
around land use, economic development and
transportation. A draft report will go under
feedback and evaluation for about two months until
it's finalized in September.
It's important to get as many people as possible
to participate in all three sessions, so please
respond with your commitment if you can!
July 10, 5:30pm - 8:30pm
Charrette Kick-Off
July 14, 9:30am - 5:00pm

Volunteers needed
We need some volunteers to help out with two tasks at the
CGC Charrette:
1) Baby Sitting:
In order to encourage more residents to participate in the
upcoming Charrette, we plan to provide sort of childcare for
those who have children to take care of. Basically this is
needed for two Saturday session on 14 and 21.
2) Documentarian:
The coalition borrowed some camcorders to film at the
Charrette for documentation purpose. If you love to play
with camcorder and KNOW how to do it, you can be our
cinematographer!

Philanthropy Gap
New Report Shows Key Gaps in Funding for Asian Americans
and Pacific Islanders
The giving trends of the top U.S. foundations to Asian
American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities has not
kept pace with the growth of these communities or of
foundation assets, according to a new report released
today by Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy
(AAPIP). The report, Growing Opportunities, looks at the
country's top 20 national foundations' grantmaking between
1990 and 2002 and finds significant funding disparities to
AAPI communities in several areas. The report concludes
with a call to action to the philanthropy field to reduce
these gaps.
