Chinatown Gateway

In late 2005, ACDC and a number of other community organizations, Chinatown residents and community members formed the Chinatown Gateway Coalition (CGC) to launch a community-wide campaign to reclaim the Chinatown Gateway Area (a.k.a. South Bay) through a participatory community planning process. The coalition looks to strengthen Chinatown, make sure community’s voice is heard, secure community’s active and effective role in the land use decision- making, and eventually ensure future development in the Chinatown Gateway Area will be beneficial to the community.

The Chinatown Gateway Area is located on land that is becoming available for redevelopment through the completion of the Big Dig. From last summer through early fall, the coalition conducted over a dozen of workshops engaging hundreds of residents, students, and community members. These workshops raise community awareness of what is happening in the Chinatown Gateway Area and encourage broad community participation in the campaign. The coalition has also reached out to neighboring communities and city officials to gain wide-spread support.

In addition to ACDC, the Coalition's members include the Chinese Economic Development Council, Chinatown Main Street, the Chinese Progressive Association, and the Chinatown Residents Association as well as a number of individuals. Members meet monthly and the coalition is open to anyone with an interest in the Gateway area or Chinatown community.
