Building Homes AFFORDABLE HOUSING
The key to preserving and revitalizing communities in Greater Boston is to ensure there is adequate high-quality, and affordable housing to meet the needs of current and future neighbors. The ACDC works directly with the community to build a common vision for real estate in Chinatown, and we partner with private developers to realize those community visions. ACDC made a commitment to building high-impact, sustainable communities that are affordable and welcoming for residents and neighbors. We recently completed a 251-unit, mixed use and mixed income project with Edward A. Fish Associates and are now looking ahead to build a 324 unit smart growth project with New Boston Development Partners on Big Dig Parcel 24 on Hudson Street. Building Leadership for a Better Future ASIAN VOICES OF ORGANIZED YOUTH FOR COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT
Asian Voices of Organized Youth for Community Empowerment (A-VOYCE) supports young people in projects that provide leadership development and skill building, while raising awareness of critical community issues and Asian American culture. Youth in this program serve as guides in walking tours of Chinatown and produce a weekly community radio show. Both avenues help them learn more about their community and express themselves through storytelling. They also develop communication, critical thinking, public speaking, research, writing and marketing skills, while filling a gap by educating the general public about their communities.
Building Investments in our Families COMPREHENSIVE HOME OWNERSHIP PROGRAM
To ensure that the Asian community is well-prepared to take full advantage of the affordable housing opportunities we create, ACDC offers a range of multilingual home ownership courses and one-on-one counseling. ACDC invites financial professionals as guest speakers to workshops to offer perspectives and educate students about the many products available. In the coming year, we will integrate a more comprehensive financial literacy education into our curriculum, as well as expanding the languages we offer to include Khmer. Building on our Past CHINATOWN HERITAGE PROJECT
The Chinatown Heritage Project celebrates and promotes the multifaceted history, culture, and community that makes Boston's Chinatown so unique and vibrant. Through a series of innovative programs, the CHP aims to increase cross-cultural understanding, contribute to Chinatown's economic prosperity, and offer current residents new mediums for self-expression. The Project includes efforts such as A Chinatown Banquet, a series of 45 short video documentaries about the neighborhood; The Chinatown Heritage Trail, a self-guided pod-cast tour focusing on history and contemporary issues facing the community; and Chinatown Walking Tours, a community-centered outing offering of educational guided walking tours for large groups. ACDC is a lead partner in the Chinatown Heritage Project, working in collaboration with the Chinese Historical Society of New England, and Chinatown Main Streets.
