Asian Community Development Corporation, a community-based organization, is committed to high standards of performance and integrity in serving the Asian American community of Greater Boston, with an emphasis on preserving and revitalizing Boston's Chinatown. ACDC works to stabilize the Asian American population in Chinatown by developing affordable housing and offering homeownership courses in Cantonese to help residents work toward the goal of owning their own homes. ACDC also organizes Chinatown residents to act on behalf of their neighborhood, working to reclaim parcels of land that were once parts of Chinatown, and were seized by the city for construction. The Chinatown Heritage Project helps ACDC empower the people of Chinatown to feel ownership of their community.

ACDC’s involvement in the Chinatown Heritage Project follows in line with a long tradition in using public art and creativity to bolster its efforts to build affordable housing in Chinatown and uplift the community as a whole. ACDC has run projects such as the Young Leaders Network, a group of Chinatown youth who meet on a weekly basis to work in and for their community, and the Berkeley Street Community Garden, a piece of land for Chinatown elders and others to grow their own vegetables and build relationships while tending their plots.

ACDC’s 18 years of experience working in the Chinatown community for housing and cultural development give the partners unique insight into the part that residents and others can play in the growth of all Chinatown Heritage Project programs. ACDC is invested in Chinatown’s future, and supports the CHP’s efforts to shape it.
