Meet the 2022 Dim Sum Honorees

ACDC is thrilled to welcome esteemed community heroes at this year’s event!

Inspiration Award

We will honor the founders of Project Restore Us, Dr. Marena Lin, Chef Irene Li, Chef Tracy Chang, and Lily Huang, with the Inspiration Award, celebrating their inspiring mission to support food security and local businesses during the pandemic. In March 2022, the James Beard Foundation honored Chef Irene Li with an esteemed Leadership Award, which recognizes "the visionaries responsible for creating a healthier, safer, and more equitable, and sustainable food system.” Irene is the youngest person to win the Beard Award for leadership.

Neil Chin Community Service Award

We will also have the pleasure of honoring Dr. Ashish K. Jha with the Neil Chin Community Service Award to commend his crucial, public promotion of science-based information about the pandemic.

Volunteer Appreciation Award

In 2021, ACDC volunteer John Lian coordinated over $200,000 in aid distribution to hundreds of families seeking support to pay for housing, groceries, and other necessities. We are excited to recognize his efforts to support the community during the pandemic. Over the last two years, ACDC spearheaded a collaborative Asian Community Emergency Relief Fund (ACERF) to raise and distribute over $500,000 in direct financial aid to hundreds of working-class immigrant households.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Update: We have sold out of tickets! You can still support the event through a donation or a program ad. If you’re still interested in sponsoring, but don’t plan to attend, please email us.

Since 1987, ACDC has built and preserved hundreds of affordable homes for working-class and immigrant families across Greater Boston, fostered youth and resident leadership and civic engagement, and advocated for policies to advance economic, racial, and housing justice. During the pandemic, in addition to these programs, ACDC and their partners supported 600+ families with over $500,000 in direct financial aid and leveraged over $3.4M in housing relief for 700+ families facing eviction or foreclosure.

By supporting this event, you’re supporting impacts like these and more!

2020 Heart of the Community Dim Sum Breakfast - Virtual Event

ACDCDimSumBreakfast.jpeg

HEART OF THE COMMUNITY DIM SUM BREAKFAST

Our annual Heart of the Community Dim Sum Breakfast will be held virtually on Friday, September 18th at 9:30am. Although we would have preferred to enjoy Dim Sum with the hundreds of guests that usually attend our Breakfast, we are prioritizing the public health of our guests and community.

We are a resilient community. We have seen COVID-19's impact on housing and financial security, health, education, and racial equity. Yet, we have seen generosity, advocacy, selflessness, and leadership.

In Chinatown, a neighborhood that is densely packed with low-income immigrant families, there is a critical need for additional resources to help achieve housing and financial security. Proceeds from this fundraiser fuel initiatives like our A-VOYCE youth leadership program, bilingual first-time homebuyer workshops and financial counseling, civic engagement and placekeeping projects.

On August 23rd, 5:30-7:30pm, they will be revealing the results of their hard work at the Hudson Lot (8-12 Hudson St). The kick-off will involve music, interactive art, and family-friendly games that all recognize and celebrate what it means to call Chinatown home.

THANK YOU to all of our sponsors, partners, amazing team of high school volunteers and community members for coming out and supporting ACDC’s Annual Films at the Gate, which revives the tradition of the Chinatown movie house. This annual event is organized and run by youth! The festival revitalizes Chinatown, brings together neighbors of diverse backgrounds and ages, and introduces kung fu films to a new generation.

Thank you to our generous sponsors and supporters!

This program is in part supported by a grant from the Boston Cultural Council, a local agency which is funded by the Mass Cultural Council, and administered by the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture.

Directions to the festival:

We suggest taking public transit if possible, due to limited street parking in Chinatown. The Chinatown Gate is closet to the Chinatown T stop on the Orange Line, to South Station on the Red Line, and to the Tufts Medical Center stop on the Silver Line.

Check out photos from this year's Festival courtesy of A-VOYCE youth, Lee-Daniel Tran:

Many thanks to Films at the Gate curator Jean Lukitsh and to our founding producers, Sam & Leslie Davol for keeping this tradition alive!
